Yale College Etchings

Since 2021 Liam has been working alongside Capital Print’s London and Yale University and fellow artist Andrew Ingamells, creating aerial view illustrations of the various colleges at Yale University in Connecticut. This involves creating drawings depicting the selected college in rich detail from an elevated perspective. This project is unique as it’s directly inspired by David Loggan’s engravings of Cambridge from the 17th century.

With Loggan’s works in mind and the final product being an etching this requires a slightly modified approach when applying the crosshatching. Beginning with vertical lines to horizontal lines with the diagonal hatching being last. This approach allows for consistency and control over the negative space between the lines which is vitally important when the etching is hand watercoloured.

So far Liam has drawn Trumbull college and Jonathan Edwards college with others to follow.
